Friends of the Glenuig Shop

About the New Shop
A new community-owned shop incorporating a fuel station, a small café and a craft sales area is planned on the site of the old shop.   As well as providing much needed services for the community and its regular visitors the project will provide some jobs and will stimulate tourism and other local businesses.   Any profits made will be devoted to helping other local projects.

The Shop will be a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Glenuig Community Association (GCA) and there will be a Board of Directors which will be made up of members of the public and at least two Directors of the GCA.  The Shop Company Directors will appoint staff, oversee accounting and determine the general policy of the shop.  They will also actively seek feedback from the community about the running and performance of the shop.  Until the shop is ready to open, a Steering Group has been set up to make plans and to raise money for the project.

The Steering Group has reopened the old shop in Glenuig on a voluntary basis in order to raise funds for a new shop. It has also run a Bring-and-Buy Sale and is planning further sales, benefit concerts and a major prize draw. In order to turn the plans into reality funding bodies expect the community to demonstrate clearly their support for the project and they expect us to put some money into the project ourselves.

How you can help
The Steering Group has launched a Group which it has called "Friends of Glenuig Shop". Friends of Glenuig Shop can make a donation to the funds and will have the right to have a say in how the shop is run and how any profits it makes are awarded to deserving local projects.

As well as raising funds, it is equally important that we have a list of people who have expressed positive support for a new shop. The more members we have and the more money we can raise this way the more funding bodies, both public and private, will be convinced that we have a project worthy of their support.

How Friends of Glenuig Shop will work
We are asking if you would make a donation to the development of the new shop (say, £10, £20 (or more!) or whatever you can afford). If you do not wish to make a donation at all at this stage, please join up nevertheless, as moral support is just as important as financial support.

You will receive from time to time a Newsletter on the progress of the shop project.

You will be asked to contribute your views on the running and development of the shop through the Newsletter and through meetings of the Friends.

Your views on the allocation of any shop profits to worthy local projects will be sought, again through the Newsletter or through a meeting of the Friends. If the shop fails to be established in the long run, then you will be contacted and asked whether you would wish your donation to be returned to you or whether you would consider having it put to use for a specified local community project agreed between the Friends, the Community Shop Steering Group and Glenuig Community Association.

The new Community Shop needs your financial and moral support in order to become a reality.  By becoming a member of the Friends of Glenuig Shop you will help to demonstrate to the funding bodies that the Community has itself contributed to the project and you will be able to have an input into the way the shop is run.

Tha bùth-sgìre ùr ri thogail ann an Gleann Uige ach mus tig seo gu buil bidh feum mòr air cul-taic bhon sgìre eadar cul-taic airgid agus cul-taic pearsanta. Faodaidh tu an dà rud a dhèanamh ma thig thu 'nad bhall de Bhuidhean nan Càirdean.  Gheibh thu cuairt-litir bho àm gu àm ag innse mar a tha gnothaichean a' dol agus bidh coinneamhan ann an drasda 's a rithist far am faod thu innse do bheachd air mar a tha a' bhùth 'ga ruith.
